How long does custom jewelry take? Timelines from order to your door
A timeline from order to your door, and how to plan for a date.
Custom jewelry usually takes 2 to 4 weeks at Ilene Joy, from the day you order to a piece ready to ship. The piece is made and set, hand-finished, checked, then shipped insured. If you need it by a date, order at least six weeks before, and ask any jeweler for its timing in writing.
The timeline, stage by stage

After you order we confirm every detail with you, including chain, length, karat, gold color and where each charm sits. That conversation is quick, but it is also the moment to make any change. The full process is in made to order: what happens between ordering and delivery.
What can slow a custom order
- Changes after you order. A new length or a different charm can restart a step. Tell us on day one.
- Stones. Pieces with unusual or special-order stones need more time to source.
- A busy season. Holidays, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are busy for any jeweler.
- Delivery. A signature may be required. If no one is home, the parcel waits.

These are our planning notes, not a promise. A rush depends on the piece, the materials, stone sourcing and the production schedule. White-glove delivery can be arranged in Los Angeles.
What the law says about shipping times
In the US, a seller who states a shipping time must reasonably expect to meet it. If the seller states none, it must ship within 30 days. If it cannot meet the date, it must offer you the choice to wait or to cancel for a prompt refund. That is the FTC's mail, internet or telephone order rule, 16 CFR 435.2. It is a useful check on any jeweler that sells online.
