From Crosby Street to TriBeCa: Ilene Joy in New York

The night in TriBeCa
New York is where the second life of the label began. On 5 February 2019, Ilene and her daughter, Rae Scheer, gave a party for the new line inside the American Thread Building in TriBeCa. Poppy Delevingne was the face of the campaign.
The coverage came the next day. Vogue ran a gallery titled "Ilene Joy Launches with Poppy Delevingne and Sienna Miller", and Just Jared named the same building and published photographs from the evening. WWD wrote it up under the headline Poppy Delevingne, Christina Hendricks Ring in Ilene Joy Jewelry Launch.
WWD called the new line the "2.0 version of her original brand". The pieces were lighter than the work Ilene had made before, and meant to be layered. Every article from that week, and those since, is gathered in Ilene Joy in the press.
Crosby Street
Today the address to know is in SoHo. Our stockists page lists Broken English at 42 Crosby Street, New York, NY 10012, with the telephone number 212.219.1264. National Jeweler reported the shop's move to this address in 2023.
The case changes as pieces sell and new ones arrive, so call ahead and ask which Ilene Joy pieces are there that week. If you are after a particular charm or chain, ask whether it can be ordered through us instead.
Weight in the hand
The most useful thing a shop can give you is the feel of the metal, and many New Yorkers shop the other way round because of it. They visit the boutique, hold a Petite chain beside a Standard one and notice the difference in weight, then go home and design the piece they really want, with the charms they choose. Charm sizes, Small, Medium and Large, are much easier to judge once you have held one.
From an apartment
You do not need to be in Los Angeles to order. In Design your own you choose the chain, add the charms and see the piece on a model before it is made. A short stay
If you are visiting from out of town, plan the order around the trip. A piece you build online is made after you order and typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, so it will not be ready before a long weekend is over. A finished piece in the shop case can go home with you the same day, if it is there. At any counter
Wherever you shop in the city, the questions are the same. Ask whether the piece is solid gold and what the karat is. Ask who made it, and where. Ask whether this is the only one, or whether it can be made in another size or gold color. Ask what the return policy is for that particular piece, and whether you can reach the designer if something comes up later. A good shop answers all five without a pause.
